(I) and (H) are

Question diagram: (I) and (H) are

Options:

Answer:
A
Solution:

(I) is obtained from ozonolysis (O₃/Zn) of a terminal alkene present in (A).

Ozonolysis of R–CH=CH₂ gives R–CHO + HCHO, so one product is formaldehyde (J).

Since (J) on Clemmensen reduction gives CH₄, it confirms (J) = HCHO.

Thus, the other fragment (I) must be an aldehyde (R–CHO).

Further, (G) on treatment with HgSO₄/H₂SO₄ undergoes hydration of alkyne.

This reaction gives enol → keto tautomerisation, forming a ketone.

Hence, (H) is a ketone and (I) is an aldehyde.
