PCC (Pyridinium chlorochromate) is a mild oxidising agent.

It oxidises 1° alcohols → aldehydes and 2° alcohols → ketones, without further oxidation.

KMnO4 /H+ and K2Cr2O7 /H+ are strong oxidising agents.

They oxidise 1° alcohols → carboxylic acids and 2° alcohols → ketones.

On heating with Cu at 573 K:

1° alcohols → aldehydes,

2° alcohols → ketones,

3° alcohols → alkenes (via dehydration).

H3PO4 acts as a dehydrating agent and converts alcohols → alkenes by elimination of water.
