Alcohol is considered as a best starting material for preparing alkyl halides. Most common reagent used for this are HX, PCl5 , PCl3 , SOCl2 . Among the halogen acid the order of reactivity is HI > HBr > HCl > HF & for Alcohol 3° > 2° > 1° CH3 –OH.
