Solute potential of pure water and its solution are:
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
By definition," Water potential is the potential energy of water per unit volume relative to pure water in reference conditions." Thus, water will move from a higher water potential region to the lower potential region through the semipermeable membrane. It can be summarized as total of pressure potential, gravity potential and solute potential. Water potential of a fluid is reduced due to presence of solute as water molecules cluster around solute particles and this is referred to as solute potential. Pure water has the water potential of zero as there is no solute present and the pressure in the system is zero. Since, presence of solute particles reduces the water potential, thus, water potential of a solution will be less water potential of pure water that is less than 0.
