In the fully developed angiospermic female gametophyte, what is the ratio of haploid, diploid and triploid cells?
Options:
Answer:
C
Solution:
The nucleus of the female gametocyte undergoes three mitotic division progressing from 2 nucleate to 4 nucleate to ultimately 8 nucleate stage. Six of the eight nuclei gets surrounded by a cell wall and the remaining two polar nuclei form a large central cell. Three cells move towards the chalazal end and the other three move towards the micropylar end. All the cells in the female gametocytes are haploid but the two polar nuclei fuse to form a diploid cell. Hence the ratio of haploid: diploid: triploid is 6: 1 :0
