In human beings, the plasma membrane of the erythrocytes has approximately ____ protein and ____ lipids

Options:

Answer:
B
Solution:

The initial studies carried out about the cell membrane, before the advent of electron microscope, had showed that the plasma membrane in erythrocytes is composed of lipids arranged in a bilayer with the polar heads on the outer side and hydrophilic heads on the inner. Lipid component mainly consisted of phosphoglycerides. Later through biochemical investigations it was found that human erythrocytes have around 40 % lipids and 52% proteins in the plasma membrane. The proteins can be divided into two types - integral and peripheral, depending on how easily they can be extracted.
