Sequentially, the last stage to occur among the following is:
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
The meotic Prophase I consists of five stages namely - Leptotene, Zygotene, Pachytene, Diplotene and Diakinesis. During the leptotene stage the compaction of chromosomes continues and they become more visible under light microscope. In second stage chromosomes start pairing together to form homologous chromosomes through the process of synapsis. During pachytene these bilvalent chromosomes now appear as tetrads and recombination nodules also appear. During the start of diplotene phase there is dissolution of synaptonemal complex and the homologous chromosomes separate from each other except at the sites where crossover has taken place and forming an X shaped structure known as chiasmata. The final phase is diakinesis where terminalisation of chiasmata takes place.
