Biology - Organisms and Populations Question with Solution | TestHub
As a efficient reproductive strategy under environmental selection pressure, some organisms like _________ and _________ produce a small number of large-sized offsprings
Options:
Answer:
Solution:
According to ecological principles of life history variations, populations evolve to maximise their reproductive fitness in the habitat in which they live. Under particular environmental selection pressures, organisms adopt different reproductive strategies.
Some organisms produce a large number of small-sized offspring to ensure survival (e.g., oysters and pelagic fishes).
Other organisms produce a small number of large-sized offspring, investing more energy into parental care to increase the chances of survival of each offspring. Examples of such organisms are birds and mammals.
Answer: birds and mammals
